At the heart of Leitrim Organic Farmers Co-op is a small, dedicated team committed to supporting our 170+ members and advancing the organic movement locally and nationally. Our work spans advisory services, education, advocacy, and enterprise development, all rooted in a deep understanding of organic principles, smallholder realities and community values.
John has managed the Co-op since 2001 and has been farming organically since 1998. He is a registered agricultural consultant and co-founder of several food and sustainability ventures including Blakes Always Organic and the health food store Tattie Hoaker in Roscommon. John also chairs the National Organic Training Skillnet and is actively engaged in national and EU policy initiatives on food sovereignty, agroecology, and rural resilience.
John shares his experiences in this interesting interview:
Hiudai provides technical and practical guidance to farmers converting to or maintaining organic production. His work includes compliance support, stocking plans, and participation in Knowledge Transfer groups. His deep understanding of the land and organic standards makes him a vital asset to the Co-op’s advisory services.
