On May 20th 2025, members of our Knowledge Transfer Group gathered at the farm of Tom and Margaret Connell in Ballinalee, Co. Longford for a hands-on discussion on agroforestry and biodiversity in organic systems.
The day offered a unique look at how trees, livestock, and nature can thrive together , and how farmers like Tom and Margaret are using agroforestry to boost productivity, soil health, and biodiversity on their land.
This session was run in collaboration with the Irish Agroforestry Forum, and included:
- A farm walk and discussion on native trees and hedgerows
- Practical insights on integrating trees with grazing systems
- Peer-to-peer learning among organic and transitioning farmers
We thank Tom and Margaret for their generous hospitality and knowledge-sharing, and look forward to more events focused on regenerative land use, climate resilience, and organic innovation.
